Background

My greatest joy is in tuning into the curiosities of each child. I aim to guide students towards their unlimited potential through dynamic student-centered curriculum.

As a documentary producer, director, and writer turned elementary educator, I have a diverse background with twelve years of experience in the t.v. and film industry and a B.S. in Communication Studies from New York University. Eight years ago, I decided to pivot and pursue my passion for teaching young people, using my experience to creatively infuse the classroom with play, movement, and media to inspire learning. Growing up, my mom wrote educational children’s music, and I saw how fun simple lyrics shared powerful ideas in playful and engaging ways. My love for connecting with children and cultivating their potential has only grown since. So, I received my MST Childhood Education and MSEd Literacy Specialist degrees from SUNY Postdam to build a strong professional foundation, knowing that literacy is at the crux of the material for younger grades. Since then, I have taught in a diverse range of public and private schools. I craft dynamic standards-aligned curriculum to make learning fun and accessible for all.

Teaching Philosophy

My mission is to inspire students to embrace their own identities, reach their highest academic potential, and feel empowered to lead with their unique strengths.

To celebrate the diversity of each learner, I scaffold lessons, cater to multiple intelligences, optimally utilize individualized and small group instruction, and allow student choice in learning and assessment whenever possible. Using hands-on activities and play, I incorporate technology, videos, dance, and cooperative learning games around student interests for an engaged classroom. As a certified yoga instructor, I also bring in mindfulness and yoga to foster relaxation and coping skills to educate the whole child. Whether it’s brainstorming how to use “I statements” to communicate feelings with peers, or setting up lunch dates to explore interests with school experts, I always work with each individual to develop their social-emotional skills and take ownership of their own learning.

These strategies work together to cultivate a child-centered approach for a joyful, inclusive classroom community, nurturing collaboration, kindness, and a passion for lifelong learning.

Core Tenets of my Teaching Philosophy: 1) Educating the “Whole Child”, 2) Celebrating Diversity, 3) Hands-On Learning, 4) Social-Emotional Learning, 5) Integrating Tech & Media, 6) Cooperative Learning
Take a look at my teaching philosophy in action! I captured this video while teaching in Dalton’s second grade classroom:
“I truly love teaching! The work is in inspiring my students to embrace their own identities. When they feel empowered to lead change in our world with their unique strengths, I’ll have done my job.”
