Hi, I’m Amy, a documentary producer, director, and writer turned elementary educator! I have taught in a diverse range of public and private schools (K-6), crafting engaging, rigorous, technology-enhanced curriculum to empower and educate the whole child. Join me in my journey as I nurture lifelong learners and leaders.
Bio & Teaching PhilosophyI believe learning takes place as much outside the classroom as it does inside the classroom. To better understand the community and as a hands-on way to give back, students volunteered and created a Walk-a-Thon to raise $10K for the NY Common Pantry. Check out this video I created to showcase the project!
Students’ interests are key to my lesson planning. I designed a book commercials unit to cultivate a love for reading in my second graders. Students practiced persuasive writing, presentation, and summarizing by reviewing their favorite book. Take a look at my second grader’s review of Ramona’s World, it might just be the next book you pick up!
Social-emotional learning is a core tenet of my teaching philosophy. Students unpacked this character trait through the SEL curriculum, The Positivity Project. To build awareness in the community on and offline, and to amplify student voice, I filmed and edited this video capturing K-6 students’ perspectives on the power of kindness. Have a look to brighten your day!
